Tanmay Vij

Lead Software Engineer - Architecture-first

I design and build resilient distributed systems - architecture first, execution always.

Great software comes from good engineering decisions made early and executed well. I turn product ideas into production systems — designing the architecture, building the critical pieces, and helping teams deliver software that's built to evolve.

01What I do

Engineering, E2E

Three disciplines that shape how I build modern software - from architecture and infrastructure to AI-native applications.

01

Architecture & Resilient Systems

I build resilient distributed systems that scale with the product. From modernizing legacy platforms to architecting new services, I design for reliability, observability, and production scale.

  • event-driven
  • fault-tolerant
  • distributed systems
  • legacy modernization
02

Cloud & Infrastructure

Good system architecture doesn't stop at the application layer. Designing production systems means treating networking, cloud platforms, deployment, security, and cost as parts of the same engineering problem. The result is infrastructure that's reliable, secure, and built to evolve with the product.

AI Systems Engineering

AI-native engineering has become a core part of software architecture. I design production LLM systems—from RAG pipelines and agentic workflows to vector search, model orchestration and fine-tuned models—grounded in an understanding of transformer internals and modern inference.

02Proof of work

Let the numbers talk.

Every metric tells a story. Behind each one is a production problem, an architectural decision, and a measurable outcome.

mission-criticallegacy modernization
Problem
A business-critical platform had evolved over years without a cohesive architectural direction, leaving critical workflows vulnerable to failures, inconsistent event processing, and operational complexity.
Architecture
Identified architectural weaknesses across asynchronous workflows, background processing, and service communication. Redesigned critical execution paths around idempotency, parallelism, resilience, and reliable event delivery to improve both performance and operational stability.
Outcome
Delivered a resilient, modern platform capable of supporting high production traffic with stronger availability, lower latency, and significantly improved operational confidence.
enterprise-readyplatform re-architecture
Problem
Fragmented services, manual production operations, weak security, and almost no observability made the system increasingly difficult to evolve, while the lack of architectural direction left engineering operating in silos.
Architecture
Redesigned the platform around clear service boundaries, centralized cross-cutting concerns such as IAM and billing, introduced CI/CD, observability, claim-based multi-tenancy, and standardized operational practices across the platform.
Outcome
Evolved the platform into an enterprise-grade architecture capable of supporting large-scale production traffic for multi-billion-dollar real-estate firms, while enabling faster delivery, stronger tenant isolation, and long-term maintainability.
70%cloud cost reduction
Problem
Cloud infrastructure costs were growing disproportionately to application demand. For a resource-constrained business, an inefficient system architecture had made the platform unnecessarily expensive to operate.
Architecture
Refactored the system architecture to eliminate unnecessary infrastructure, redesign application delivery, and align cloud resources with actual workload characteristics instead of historical implementation choices.
Outcome
Reduced monthly cloud spend by up to 70% while improving latency and preserving security, scalability, and high availability.
AI-nativeenterprise knowledge platform
Problem
Organizations struggled to search and retrieve information across vast collections of sensitive documents while maintaining strict tenant isolation and compliance.
Architecture
Designed a multi-tenant RAG platform with automated document ingestion, embedding pipelines, vector search, and continuous indexing, allowing each organization to build and maintain its own isolated knowledge base directly from incoming documents.
Outcome
Turned hours of manual document discovery into natural conversations, enabling employees to find the information they needed in seconds while preserving strict tenant isolation and data confidentiality.
03Background

The through-line is architecture.

My career has taken me across frontend, backend, cloud, and AI, but my focus has always been the same: designing production systems that are reliable, scalable, and built to evolve. Over the years I've led engineering teams, architected systems, and worked directly with customers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical decisions.

With every role, I've gravitated toward solving the structural problems that determine how quickly products can evolve and businesses can execute.

05How I think

A few things I believe about architecture.

Good architecture isn't about choosing complex solutions. It's about making the right trade-offs.

01

Architecture should earn its complexity. Start with the simplest architecture that solves today's problem. Complexity should be introduced because the product demands it, not because another company built it that way.

02

Good architecture lets you disconnect. The best systems are the ones you trust while you're away. That confidence comes from resilience, observability, fault tolerance, and engineering teams that can operate without depending on a single person.

03

Design for growth, not imaginary scale. Systems should be easy to evolve, but they don't need to solve problems you'll only have years from now. Good architecture keeps future options open without paying today's complexity tax.

04

Every technical decision should make the product better. Whether it's distributed systems, cloud architecture, or AI, the first question is always the same: does this make life meaningfully easier for the people using the product?
